The Health of our Dogs and Your Puppies is very important to us.

Our Puppies come wormed, first puppy shots, vet checked, and record of pedigree.

The puppies are used to being around people of all ages, visitors to the farm love to see and pet them. They are exposed to other dogs, cats, kittens, ducks, geese, chickens, horses, goats, the outdoors, indoors and are introduced to a kennel in readiness for traveling.

INFORMATION:

Deworming puppies takes care of adult worms that almost all puppies have. It does not kill larvae that remain in the puppies system. So even though we deworm, the larvae can grow and you can still have worms, as the puppy matures he/she becomes more immune and does not require frequent dewormings like they do as a puppy. Deworming should be every 2-3 weeks until 3 months of age.

It is your responsibility as the puppies new owner to continue on good health care for the puppy. We have provided your puppy with our local requirements for shots, worming and health guards.

FEEDING:

Our puppies are all fed Purina Healthy Morsals Puppy Chow. Because the puppies are fed in a group, they have access to this food 24/7 while they are here, however you may need to put them on a more restricted schedule to facilitate housebreaking. It may be necessary to put them on a feeding schedule for housebreaking reasons once you receive your puppy.

Purina is usually a brand which is readily available to just about everyone. It can be found in Wal-Mart, K-Mart & Target, also many Grocery & Farm stores carry this brand. We have not had any problems with Purina, and our dogs good health gives us no reason to change brands.

When our puppies first begin to eat solid foods, we start them on a mixture of the Purina Healthy Morsals Puppy Chow, mixed with milk & warm water to soften it.

If you change your puppy's brand of food, it is best to mix it with the Purina for the first few days. We will send a zip lock of food with your puppy if you wish to change them over to another brand.

Your Cockapoo puppy should be fed at least 3 times a day.

ENVIRONMENT:

All puppies are born in our living room and stay there until they can climb out of the whelping box [usually about four weeks], this allows us to keep a very close eye on their births and notice any problems that can occur in the early days. We also have a room that that is better set up for dogs & older puppies so when the puppies are old enough, we move them into the dog room. This room is kept heated as necessary. We spend a lot of our time with our dogs, feeding, cleaning up and just playing with them. Except for dams with puppies, or during their turn as an indoor pet, our Cocker Spaniels all live together, and go for almost daily walks in the field with my daughters.

They are kept clean and comfortable and always have food and water available. Weaned puppies are given lots of people time, both inside & out. They have access to the outdoors each day except during cold or rainy weather. We close them in at night in a 100square foot area, with food, water, toys and beds available to them. We use wood shavings to help keep them clean and soak up any mess, this is cleaned daily.

If puppies are still with us when they are a bit older, we teach them to use a dog door so that they can go in or out as they please. Once they are given full access to a securely fenced yard they quickly learn to go potty outdoors.

OUR ADULT DOGS:

Our Adult dogs are vaccinated as needed, including rabies. They are regularly dewormed, with Panacur or Safeguard. We treat our dogs with Cedarcide during flea & tick season.

If an adult dog was found to have a genetic health problem, we would no longer breed that dog. The dog would then be nuetered, and kept as a pet or rehomed. Older dogs are also nuetered and rehomed or live the rest of their life here in retirement. We never put any dog or puppy down unless it was suffering from a terminal illness and had no hope of a healthy future. When our animals need vet care we ensure that they receive it.

Due to different appetities in our Cocker Spaniels we allow them access to food and water all the time, that way the slow eaters are sure to get what they need. They are also all given treats and rawhide chews. Our adult dogs are fed Purina Dog Chow. Dams when in late pregnancy and feeding puppies, are given Purina Healthy Morsals Puppy Chow, the same as their puppies. This helps to keep them in good condition.
